Childminders Development Grant

Start-up grants for childminding services

The Department of Children and Youth Affairs provides Childminding Development Grants of up to €1,000 to those who provide or intend to provide a childminding service in the Childminder’s own home. You may apply for a grant every two years to purchase equipment or make small home modifications for your service.

To apply you must

  • Mind or intend to mind at least 3 children part time (or 1 child full time and 1 part time)
  • Be notified/known to the local Childcare Committee or registered with TUSLA, if required.
  • Provide evidence of appropriate insurance for your service.

Contact us as Westmeath County Childcare Committee for full terms and conditions, and find out when the next round of grants is available in your area.

If you are currently in receipt of a welfare payment, you may be eligible for the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance or the Short Term Enterprise Allowance to start your own business.

These schemes allow you to keep some or all of your welfare payment and benefits (such as a medical card), while accessing extra supports, such as grants for training, market research, business plans and access to loans to buy equipment.
