Supporting Parents To Parent A Bereaved Child workshop for Parents/Guardians

The Pillar Project is a one-year pilot funded the Toy Show 2021 and based in Ozanam House, Dublin 1 (SVP). The project aims to support parents and children who have an experience of loss through separation and/or bereavement. Rainbows Ireland group-based programmes are running until June 2023, many based in Ozanam House, however on-site delivery of the programme can be offered to community groups, FRC’s and schools.

The project offers monthly in person and zoom bereavement workshops to support parents who are parenting a grieving child. More information of exact dates are available on our webpage.

This workshop facilitated by Nichola Mooney will explore the impact of death on children and teens; help parents to develop tools to support children and teens to talk openly about their feelings; support parents to develop coping strategies as they live with their own grief, while supporting a child or teen in their care. Supporting carers to engage with the ‘big feelings’ that can arise around grief rather than fear them. The interactive workshop will be a safe space for parents to listen, be heard and explore and feel their way through their own grief so they can feel more able to support their children at this time.

Nichola has a background in Community Youth Work and family support that has spanned over the past 16 years. In 2016 Nichola completed her MA in Drama therapy which is a Creative Art Therapy. Nichola works with children, teenagers, and adults in her private practice as a drama therapist.

She is currently engaged in a Grief Training, a programme developed by Liz Gleeson called “Shapes of Grief”.
