Special Offer for People Working in the Childcare Sector in Westmeath (Please see the bottom of this email for the special offer)
At Aspire Training, we offer learners the opportunity to complete both the QQI Level 5 Minor Award in Special Needs Assisting (QQI Code: 5N1786) and the Level 6 Minor Award in Special Needs Assisting (QQI Code: 6N1957) together. Achieving both the level 5 and 6 awards can enhance employment opportunities in a variety of places such as mainstream schools, special schools, and areas within general community care or advocacy.
Programme Profile and Timeframe:
This programme is designed to enable learners to work effectively as Special Needs Assistants and gain an understanding of the skills required to ensure children they are working with become independent learners. They will learn to work under the direction of the teacher and work as part of the multidisciplinary team.
Our Midland Locations, starting in January, are as follows:
Mullingar - 6 Saturdays, every second Saturday, from 9.30am - 4pm
Tullamore - 6 Saturdays, every second Saturday, from 9.30am - 4pm
Athlone - Monday evenings, one evening per week for 12 weeks, from 7pm- 10pm
Fluent English is required and it is recommended that participants will have some relevant work or life experience in working with children with special needs.
Work experience is not a mandatory requirement to pass this programme. We do, however, encourage our learners to complete some voluntary work experience over the duration of the programme. Learners who wish to complete voluntary work can be issued with a letter from Aspire Training confirming they are enrolled on the course.
Currently, learners are emailed the handouts required weekly. Please note that while you may like to print out your handouts, laptops and tablets are welcome in class. We are currently working on an online platform for course materials and hope learners will be able to avail of this in early 2019.
All tutors on this programme are qualified in their specific fields to a minimum level of two above that of which they are teaching. Our tutors also have practical experience in their individual fields along with experience and qualifications in adult training and development.
A variety of methods and approaches are used including: practical demonstrations, oral presentations / interviews, individual tutorial support, assignments and projects, work experience, discussions and debates, role play and attendance by specialist guest speakers.
